Arts & Crafts Fair

Plan to come to Downtown Beckley on Saturday night August 24 for an Appalachian Block Party showcasing the flavor & Music of Appalachia in Beckley's Historic District!  Taste local cuisine sold by local restaurants and organizations.  Enjoy performances by New River Jazz Band, Shane Ingram and The Lilly Mountaineers.

Also Enjoy a short documentary on arts in Appalachian LIFExCULTURExART at the Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 24.

Craft beverage lovers are invited to kick-off the Appalachian Festival a week early at Daniel Vineyards at 2nd Annual West Virginia Craft Beverage Festival.  West Virginia Wineries, Hard Cider and special Craft Beer Garden along with a variety of talented WV crafts, LIVE music and good food!  Remember this event is a week prior to the Festival on Saturday, August 17 from 12noon - 7pm.

Also new for this year to the Festival is the Beckley Concert Association event "Appalachian Jamboree Concert" featuring Appalachian musicians the Mike Mitchell Band, Blue Yonder and Long Point String Band LIVE in concert on Thursday evening, August 22.

Lost Cannon Bluegrass Band and Shane Ingram will perform bluegrass and folk music at Friday in the Park.  Lunch food vendors will also be there Friday, August 23 11:30am - 1pm.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the Festival take an underground tour of a once-working Coal Mine at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine.  Under the supervision of an experienced veteran coal miner, travel 1,500 feet below ground to learn about everything there is to know about coal mining in Appalachia.

Join local historians for a walking tour through Beckley’s haunted past on a Haunted Beckley Tour.  Hear tales of ghosts, legends and lore as your stroll through the downtown historic district.  You may encournter the spirit of Hannah, a Civil Way nurse, or the “Lady in Red” wandering the courthouse.  Tours start at 7pm on Friday and Saturday evenings in the Beckley Underground off of Neville Street.

Drop by the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia to travel through Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites immerses children and adults in favorite picture books, from the gardens of The Tale of Peter Rabbit to the urban snowscape of The Snowy Day and the tropical island of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Also on Saturday at 10am - Noon Make-N-Take a traditional mountain craft.

Join Ranger on the Rock for a activity that allows you to learn more about nature.  You can experience a superb view from the rim at the Main Overlook at Grandview National Park.  This Ranger led activity starts at 6:30pm on Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25.

Calling all kids to discover West Virginia State symbols at a scavenger hunt: track down state animal, fish, bird, flower, tree and more.  Dig up a fossil and enjoy a famous West Virginia food, The Pizza Roll!  All this and more at The Raleigh County Public Library.  Children of all ages are welcome.  Saturday, August 24th 2:00pm.

Jewelry lovers will enjoy a demonstration by Christine Keller at Tamarack, The Best of West Virginia all weekend as she handcrafts her unique and colorful jewelry.

Photography enthusiasts are invited to the Beckley Art Center throughout the weekend for a Photography Competition Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11am - 7pm and a Camera Club Demonstration Saturday at 2pm.

On Saturday, August 24 at 4pm just before the Appalachian Block Party begins the Academy of Creative Arts Student Showcase will feature their music students performing at their storefront at 328 Nevile Street in Downtown Beckley.

Theatre West Virginia will be featured during an Appalachian Story Telling Event at Crossroads Mall on Saturday, August 24 at 2pm.

 
Tour historic Wildwood House Museum.  The historic home of Beckley's Founder, General Alfred Beckley.  Tours are from 1:00pm - 3:00pm on Sunday, August 25.  Cost is $3.00 per person.
